Posted on: 22/07/2022A Message from Mr MortonWhat a year we have at Buckland St Mary Primary School. It seems like only yesterday that I was welcomed back into the Buckland family and into the Castle one too! I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with amazing teachers and delightful children. It doesn’t matter which school site I find myself on (often more than one in a day) I am always greeted with beaming smiles and welcoming words. It really does make my heart sing. We have had a rollercoaster of a year in terms of closures, illness and general ups and downs but you have all dug in and made each day worthwhile. I think we have all shown our true Somerset spirit! Thank you to you all. Buckland St Mary C of E Primary School is set for change. Year 6 you leave us to start your next adventures. We know that you will all make the right choices and make our world a better place for having each and everyone of you in it. Be amazing! I would like to take a moment to thank Mrs Bown, Miss Sullivan and Miss Auton for all of their hard work and commitment to our children over their time at Buckland. Mrs Bown has worked with us this year as a TA and has made a difference to our children’s lives. Miss Sullivan has worked at Buckland for 2 years and has led our EYFS with passion, enthusiasm and creativity. Thank you Miss Sullivan for everything you have accomplished with us. Finally, Miss Auton leaves us after 21 and 1⁄2 years of service to the school and to my calculations has been part of roughly 1,500 children’s and their families lives over her time with us. Miss Auton you are a Buckland institution and your shoes are impossible to fill. We thank you for everything that you have done for the school, its children and the wider community. You are amazing!Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
Posted on: 26/05/2022A Message from Mr MortonIt is often quoted that ‘good things come in small packages’. That is certainly true of this half term. We have managed to pack so many amazing opportunities into the last 5 weeks. We began the half term with our brave Oak class children venturing out for a 2 day residential trip to Rock and Rapid. Then came swimming sessions for our Key stage 2 children. The May Fayre raised over £2,500 and was a welcome return to a bit of Buckland St Mary ‘normality’. SATs gave our children an opportunity to apply all of their learning and we are very proud of all of their efforts and resilience. Then came our whole week of Arts, full of wonderful creativity, and finally our Jubilee picnic in celebration of our Queen and her unwavering service to our nation. I’m confident that our red, white and blue apparel will demonstrate our patriotism and will possibly be visible from space! Thank you all for your support over the past 5 weeks. Have a wonderful Jubilee celebration weekend and I look forward to welcoming you all back for our final half term. Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
Posted on: 26/05/2022The Redstart Performing Arts Festival 2022The Redstart Performing Arts Festival 2022 The Redstart Learning Partnership Performing Arts Festival For the first time, all 10 of The Redstart Learning Partnership’s (TRLP) primary schools will be coming together to celebrate performing arts across the trust. The children from TRLPs 10 schools all based in Somerset and Devon will have two workshops one singing and one for dance with industry professionals Carolyn Tudor and Stuart Chaffer, as well as rehearse their own pieces to perform in a variety show on the professional theatre stage for their families in the afternoon. There will be approximately 170 children attending the day, all enjoying this wonderful opportunity. All of the children involved in the event will be performing a song together at the end of the performance. The song that has been chosen is this year’s Sing Up Day song and is called ‘Love as our Guide'. It is a rousing, uplifting, and optimistic pop anthem, exploring themes of kindness and of being a person you can be proud of. In addition to this to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the TRLP have also arranged a special Jubilee Art Competition for the children. The winners will be chosen by Suzanne Flack (CEO of TRLP), Ethne Staniland (Subject Leader of Art for TRLP) and Susan Browning (Somerset artist). The winning artists will have their entries displayed in the Brewhouse Theatre foyer for all to enjoy. Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
Posted on: 26/04/2022A Message from Mr MortonThe emergence of spring at Buckland St Mary C of E Primary School has brought with it the spirit of giving. As a school we have opened our hearts and our pockets to support charities, both local and global. Thank you for all of your support with our fundraising efforts. It has once again demonstrated that our small school can make a big impact in the world. Spring has also marked the return of better weather too. It is lovely to hear the children engaged in outdoor activities linked to their classroom learning with such excitement. We welcome the opportunity to bring our learning to life as the weather allows us to maximise our fantastic surroundings. As you will be blissfully aware, we have battled with Covid 19 this half term as it swept through our school again! Thank you all so much for your support, patience and understanding as we have moved heaven and earth to keep our school open and to keep our children educated. We hope that as we glide into the Easter break that you will all now be able to rest and recharge ready for the summer term. I wish you all a safe and restful end to the term and we look forward to inviting you in more to share all of our learning as the summer term unfolds.Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
