A message from Gareth Nation

It’s been lovely to see the children return to school in high spirits and full of enthusiasm.  Classes have been busy working on their ‘Gateway’ Cracking Inventions. They’ve researched and designed various inventions based around the theme of ‘Space’ and have explored materials to make space helmets and rovers. It is lovely to see the children measuring accurately, sawing, glueing, sanding and just before Christmas - stitching! They have produced some beautiful work. In order to promote a greater sense of pride in our outcomes,  I would like to display some examples in school. To this end, we’d be most grateful if you could donate your child’s Christmas decoration for display. We would of course return it in readiness for next Christmas!  Last term we purchased some new ‘Discovery Books’ for Year 2 - 6 children who have begun adding excellent examples of their work. It is such a pleasure to see them willing to share their outcomes with staff. Reception and Year 1 children record their work in the class ‘Floor Book’. They too are always keen to share their learning. These will be available for you to look at during the next ‘Drop In’ session on 14th February 2020.  Our day trip to ‘We the Curious’ was a huge success. My thanks to Mrs Cann and Miss Auton for organising the trip and to all those who supported. The children’s behaviour was exemplary and they represented their school beautifully. Well done to all involved.  Miss Cridland very kindly organised for a GB athlete to come to our school. On Monday, Rich Parker (a British professional ‘vert’ skater) visited Buckland, led a circuits session with all the children and showed us his skills - by jumping over three members of staff! My thanks to Miss Cridland and Rich Parker for such a fantastic afternoon Finally, we have a wonderful opportunity for you to become an integral part of Buckland St. Mary C of E School. We’re seeking to increase the numbers of our (currently known as) ‘Ethos and Welfare Committee’. We meet regularly throughout the year and discuss the School’s priorities.
