Posted on: 23/10/2020Parents' Evening Information Dear parents/carers, Due to Coronavirus restrictions, we will hold the forthcoming Parents’ Evening via Zoom. We would like to encourage everyone to book an appointment with their child’s/children’s teacher so that we have a chance to discuss how your child is progressing in school and how we can work together to do the very best for them. If it is difficult for you to join via Zoom for any reason, contact the school office for the attention of your child’s class teacher. These meetings are a vital part of your child’s education and contribute towards their happiness at school and their progress in education. If you would also like to speak with Mr Nation (Executive Head of School) and/or Miss Counter (SENDCo), please contact the school office. In keeping with our Risk Assessments and Home School Agreement, all sessions will be recorded and we ask you to ensure that if you choose to have your camera on, that the environment is suitable and non-offensive. Below is a link to a Google Form. Please follow the corresponding link for your child’s class and complete the form. You must enter your child’s full name and choose 3 preferred time slots. We will do our best to accommodate a time close to your selection. Please complete one form per child, even if your children are in the same class. All Google Forms must be completed by Monday 2nd November 0800. You will then receive an email with the link to the Zoom Meeting and your approximate meeting time by Friday 6th November. For those classes with more than 30 children who are fully subscribed, teachers will contact you to arrange a suitable time. As always, should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office. Posted on: 23/10/2020A message from Gareth NationThe start of 2020 - 2021 at Buckland St. Mary C of E Primary School has been an incredibly successful one thanks to the unwavering support from every member of staff. Mrs K Henning and Mr A Kalopsideotis have not only settled brilliantly but are having a direct impact on the children’s progress thanks to their commitment and dedication to the children. Mr Kalopsideotis supported Beech Class with elevation drawings last week - we were blown away by the outcomes! Modern Foreign Language is evident in every class thanks to Mrs Hennings hard work and determination. Miss Katie Sulivan has seamlessly become part of the team and has ensured the children in EYFS have had such a positive start to their school career. Despite the obvious setbacks from last year, our revised approach to the national curriculum has taken off with pace. The teachers should feel very proud of what they’ve achieved in such a short time. We have a robust, experience based curriculum which every child who attends Buckland School benefits from. Miss Rogers (DCEO) and Mr Handscomb (Director of Teaching and Learning) were impressed with what they saw when they visited Buckland School last Wednesday. Well done to all the staff and of course the children - Buckland is going from strength to strength! Forest School sessions have been superb. The team from ROAM have been working with the children each week and the smell of fire and toasted marshmallows is now a familiar one. Premier Sports continues to provide high quality PE provision for every child. Our Christian Vision is almost tangible across the school and is permeating everything we do. My thanks to the teachers, to Mrs Cann and all members of the team who continue to work tirelessly ensuring the very best for every child. Finally, my thanks to Mr Heath-Coleman (Estates and Contract Manager) for securing the bid for and organising the installation of the new roof at Buckland School, I’m sure you’ll agree it looks fantastic! Wishing you all an enjoyable half term. Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

Posted on: 25/09/2020A message from Gareth NationWelcome to the first Newsletter of 2020 - 2021. A warm welcome to everyone who has joined us this year and also to those familiar faces, families and friends. I can’t emphasise enough how lovely it is to see the children return to school full of joy and positivity. We’ve had a fantastic start to the school year thanks to the efforts of the team at Buckland St. Mary and my thanks to you as parents/carers for your understanding with some of our new procedures - which are working fantastically. As you are aware, Forest School is firmly in place and the children have had a fantastic time working with the Forest School team from ROAM. They have toasted marshmallows, built (and tested) dens and made beautiful leaf and medal designs. In addition, Premier Sports are providing quality PE sessions for the children as well as supporting groups at lunchtimes and throughout the school day. Classrooms have a real ‘buzz’ and are hives of activity. The range of tasks the children have taken part in has been fantastic and we’re underway with our Discovery work based on ‘Our Wonderful Village’. Classes have studied maps, navigated themselves around Buckland and drawn detailed studies of OS maps. Of course we’ve also learnt lots in maths and literacy; teachers and support staff are working hard to commence learning from Spring last year! As a father of two, I fully appreciate the logistics of staggered drop off and collection times, the reduction of After School Clubs and any concerns regarding the current situation. I understand the importance of supporting the children to adapt to these new routines and help them to feel safe and secure when things around them are slightly different than before. As a school, we are here to support you and your family as best we can. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I’ve received some lovely positive comments from parents/carers about all we’re doing in school which has been wonderful to hear so thank you. ‘Team Buckland’ have been invaluable in ensuring the start to 2020 - 2021 has been successful.Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
