The Redstart Performing Arts Festival 2022

The Redstart Performing Arts Festival 2022 The Redstart Learning Partnership Performing Arts Festival For the first time, all 10 of The Redstart Learning Partnership’s (TRLP) primary schools will be coming together to celebrate performing arts across the trust. The children from TRLPs 10 schools all based in Somerset and Devon will have two workshops one singing and one for dance with industry professionals Carolyn Tudor and Stuart Chaffer, as well as rehearse their own pieces to perform in a variety show on the professional theatre stage for their families in the afternoon. There will be approximately 170 children attending the day, all enjoying this wonderful opportunity.  All of the children involved in the event will be performing a song together at the end of the performance.  The song that has been chosen is this year’s Sing Up Day song and is called ‘Love as our Guide'.  It is a rousing, uplifting, and optimistic pop anthem, exploring themes of kindness and of being a person you can be proud of. In addition to this to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the TRLP have also arranged a special Jubilee Art Competition for the children.  The winners will be chosen by Suzanne Flack (CEO of TRLP), Ethne Staniland (Subject Leader of Art for TRLP) and Susan Browning (Somerset artist). The winning artists will have their entries displayed in the Brewhouse Theatre foyer for all to enjoy. Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

A Message from Mr Morton

It is often quoted that ‘good things come in small packages’. That is certainly true of this half term. We have managed to pack so many amazing opportunities into the last 5 weeks. We began the half term with our brave Oak class children venturing out for a 2 day residential trip to Rock and Rapid. Then came swimming sessions for our Key stage 2 children. The May Fayre raised over £2,500 and was a welcome return to a bit of Buckland St Mary ‘normality’. SATs gave our children an opportunity to apply all of their learning and we are very proud of all of their efforts and resilience. Then came our whole week of Arts, full of wonderful creativity, and finally our Jubilee picnic in celebration of our Queen and her unwavering service to our nation. I’m confident that our red, white and blue apparel will demonstrate our patriotism and will possibly be visible from space! Thank you all for your support over the past 5 weeks. A Message from Mr Morton

The emergence of spring at Buckland St Mary C of E Primary School has brought with it the spirit of giving. As a school we have opened our hearts and our pockets to support charities, both local and global. Thank you for all of your support with our fundraising efforts. It has once again demonstrated that our small school can make a big impact in the world. Spring has also marked the return of better weather too. It is lovely to hear the children engaged in outdoor activities linked to their classroom learning with such excitement. We welcome the opportunity to bring our learning to life as the weather allows us to maximise our fantastic surroundings. As you will be blissfully aware, we have battled with Covid 19 this half term as it swept through our school again! Thank you all so much for your support, patience and understanding as we have moved heaven and earth to keep our school open and to keep our children educated. We hope that as we glide into the Easter break that you will all now be able to rest and recharge ready for the summer term. A Message From Mr Morton

What a fun filled half term it has been here at Buckland St Mary C of E Primary School. As I walk around the classes each morning I am always energised by the marvellous activities and enthusiasm that permeates out of every classroom. The children are always so keen to share all of the amazing activities they are working on and the great learning they are engaged in. Ash class have taught me lots of new things about growing things from seeds, Oak class have blown me away with their technical understanding of the water cycle and river systems and Beech class have wow’d me with their geographical understanding of Costa Rica and how to dissect a plant into its component parts! It makes me wish that I was still a school child (feel free to add in a sarcastic comment under your breath here!). Our wear it wild day was a success, raising over £70 for the WWF. Thank you to Max and the whole school council for making this event possible. You all looked amazing in your animal costumes! Our children really do shine their light brightly over our community and the wider world around us. School Closure Friday 18th February due to adverse weather conditions

School Closure due to the Potential Impact of Extreme Weather   Dear parents and carers,    School and Nursery will be closed tomorrow, Friday 18th February 2022, for all children.    Although we would like to be open and we are mindful of the impact that school closures have on young people and parents, Somerset County Council has issued a ‘do not travel’ warning for tomorrow morning. All education leaders across the county have received an email this afternoon to advise that all schools, early years settings and colleges should close for the day due to the potential impacts of Storm Eunice.   Remote education will be available through the normal routes.   Please be cautious tomorrow and we wish you a restful half-term break.    Yours sincerely    S Morton Head of SchoolCategories: 1 CategorySchool News

A Message from Mr Morton

A very warm welcome back to you all. I hope that you had a fabulous, festive and fun filled two weeks away from school. I know that I do not need to be anywhere near a mince pie again until at least November! We are grateful that term has started a smoothly as could be expected in such turbulent times. The children have settled back into routine like clockwork and this has helped us to maintain a calm and positive environment as we start the term. As I do my daily visit to all of the classes, it is fabulous to see all of the children engaged in their learning and sharing their own understanding of the world around them.   There are many exciting experiences planned for the children to get involved in over the coming term and we can’t wait to share all of our learning with you.   We currently have a vacancy on our Teaching and Learning Committee (Governing body equivalent) and we would love to have parental representation. It’s not as onerous as it may sound! The committee meets 4 times a year for an hour to discuss the schools progress and to help challenge and steer the wider development of our children’s education. If you are interested then please fill out an expression of interest form (available from the school office) Having a parental voice on our committee is an invaluable part of the team as it give us the parents perspective.
